So, these five lads, Al, Jonah, Roy, Richard (that's
me) and Stephen (otherwise known as Harry Hormones) decided that running a mobile Disco would be a good idea, and it would
help pay for the Bedford CA which cost us £75.00!!!
We had previously bought the Bedford CA to transport
the five of us to Torquay for a fortnights holiday in 1969.
My Father at the time was trying to raise money for
a new Pavillion/Club for the village, and we agreed that he would make most of the gear we would require, if we did some "gigs"
for free to help the new Pavillion fund.
He really did a good job of constructing the console
for housing the Decks, and it was decided that he would build the Speaker cabinets to save money. The decision to purchase
a 30 watt Amplifier..... seemed a good idea at the time, we would live to regret it.
The first "gig" we did, was as agreed, for the fund
raising my father was involved with. We had the pleasure to be support, to a band called "Dream Police" who had a minor hit
with "I'm comin' home". We opened the Dance and "Dream Police" were on about an hour later, everything was going well until
our second stint, when we realised that no one could hear us, our 30 watt system had become extint over night.
During the first six months, the gang of five became
three, Alan and Stephen finding love!! A couple of months after that, Jonah also found love, then there were two!
Myself and Roy were really the "Road Show", we "gigged"
for almost three years, it was about the end of 1973 that we decided to call it a day. One of the main reasons was, that every
man and his dog thought it would be easy money to start their own mobile disco, and to be honest at this time there were some
real disastorus disco's around.
What is this site about? Well it's just some memories
really, and if your reading this and have good memories of our disco, then please, send us an Email
